Specialist Resourced Provision- The Greenfinches

What is an SRP?

Specialist Resourced Provisions (SRPs) are where places are reserved at a mainstream school for pupils with a specific type of SEND requiring a teaching base and some specialist facilities around the school. They are usually for pupils with EHC plans but could include pupils with SEN support who are on the pathway for an EHCP.

What does the SRP look like at Greengate?

Our school has a long history of inclusive practice and holds a SEND & Inclusion charter mark. For many years, children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities have been taught alongside their peers in class and also supported in our strategic resourced provision by dedicated and specialist staff. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils thrive in our school and support pupils with a range of differing and individual needs.

‘The Greenfinches’ was established in September 2015 but from September 2025, as part of a Local Authority programme of SEND support improvements throughout the county, we are now assigned as an SRP. The Greenfinches is a 20-place SRP, catering for children with an EHCP who meet the needs of our admissions criteria. It caters to children from Year 3 to Year 6. There are two full-time experienced teachers and an autism specialist HLTA as well as a team of full-time support staff. Admissions to the SRP will follow Westmorland and Furness usual admissions procedures and requests should be made to the SEND Team, not directly to the school.

The high adult ratio within the Greenfinches allows children to spend up to a full day within the provision in order to meet their needs through a variety of approaches. Each pupil has a programme tailored to their specific needs and a timetable which ensures integration into their peer group as and when appropriate.

The Greenfinches has two dedicated classrooms within the mainstream environment in order to ensure that all pupils are able to learn within a safe environment that can meet their needs and help them to progress to the best of their ability.

What are the aims of our SRP?

The Greenfinches was created to support young people with speech, language, communication needs and/or autism. The aim of The Greenfinches is for the pupils to:

  • Have the potential to access their year group curriculum and be comfortable in a classroom environment but, for reasons associated with their communication and interaction difficulties or learning and additional needs, be unable to make sufficient progress or fulfil their potential in a whole class placement.
  • Have access to a curriculum that is personalised to their needs relating to the outcomes on their EHCP and/ or personalised learning plans.
  • Be comfortable in a classroom environment and have a level of cognition and language that enables them to access at least some of the whole class curriculum and learning environment.
  • Benefit from small group or 1:1 intervention work to meet their needs identified within their EHCP or specific targets set by outside agencies.
  • Benefit from regular sensory input and breaks built into their school day.
  • Benefit from attending some of their year group classes and from regular social interaction with their peers.
  • Access additional specialist support, in order to successfully achieve their educational outcomes.
  • Gain strategies to manage increasing independence in their learning and achieve their full potential through the additional support and targeted intervention available.
